I forgot to shave my legs. Do you care?

I hear this one (and many versions of it) so frequently, that it had to come first. And the answer is no. I don’t care. In fact, I rarely notice my client’s body hair because I’m focused on the soft tissues beneneath their skin.

I don’t care how much or little body hair you have (or where it grows), how fat or skinny you are, how ugly you think your feet are, or how much cellulite you have. What matters to me are the issues we are treating, your comfort, and your quality of life. Please never let body image issues stop you from getting the physical help you need.

I am transgender or non-binary, and am hesitant in seeking care. What can I expect from you and your practice?

  • There are no questions of sex or gender on my forms.
  • You are not required to use your dead name on my forms. Even if it is still your legal name.
  • Tell me your pronouns. I will use them. I will remember them.
  • I already have other transgender and non-binary clients. You will not find yourself paving the way for others.
  • I am experienced in treating issues specific to transgender folks, such as issues arising from chest binding, and scar tissue and adhesions resulting from gender affirming surgeries.
  • You will be treated with the compassion, dignity, and respect that every human being deserves.

This is my first professional massage. What should I expect?

First you’ll fill out a few forms for your file. Next, I’ll lead you to the massage room, featuring low lighting, aromatherapy diffusion (it’s okay to ask for a scent-free experience), and relaxing music. I’ll step out to allow you to get undressed to your comfort level and situated on the table in privacy. You’ll slip beneath the sheet and blanket, and rest comfortably.

A few minutes later, I will return and knock gently on the door to ask if you are ready. Once I’m in the room, I’ll make sure you are comfortable, and begin your massage. You don’t need to do anything during your massage except relax. If I need to adjust your position, I will move you or quietly ask you to move as needed. I will uncover your body in sections as I move through your massage, and replace the covers before I move to the next area. Your genitals and breasts (for women) will remain covered at all times.

When your massage has ended, I will let gently let you know your time is up, and leave the room so you can get up and get dressed in privacy. I’ll meet you outside the massage room with a bottle of water, and ask how you enjoyed your massage.

Do I have to be naked?

No, but it certainly helps. Don’t worry! You will remain draped throughout the massage, and I will do my best to keep you feeling safe and secure. Massage is most effective when a skin-on-skin glide can be achieved. Some choose to leave their underwear on so they feel more secure. This is only a problem if you would like your gluteal (buttocks) muscles included in the massage.

Will my massage or bodywork therapy hurt?

Relaxation Massage rarely causes discomfort. Sometimes Therapeutic Massage can be slightly painful as stubborn knots are worked out, but most describe it as a “good pain” or “necessary pain.” Cupping can be a bit uncomfortable at higher levels of suction, but Cupping and Gua Sha should be painless pain-relieving techniques.

I am sick. Should I keep my massage appointment?

Absolutely not. Please contact me, and I will do everything I can to reschedule you for a better time. Getting a massage can release toxins from your muscles. Your body normally clears these toxins out efficiently, but when you are sick, they can actually make you feel sicker. Also, it is much easier for me to reschedule you because you are sick than it is to reschedule all of my clients because I have caught your illness. Your consideration is deeply appreciated!

Can I talk during my massage?

Of course! Some clients prefer to talk, and some clients prefer silence (except for the music). Either one is completely acceptable, and it’s totally up to you. Let me know what you’d prefer, and I’ll honor it.

Can I choose my own music?

Yes! Build a Spotify playlist of your own, or choose music stored on your phone. You can connect to my speaker via bluetooth, and stream your chosen music for the duration of your appointment!

Can I purchase a package of multiple massages or multiple therapeutic treatment sessions for a discounted rate?

Absolutely! Tell me which therapies you would like to bundle, and I’ll create a package just for you.

Which forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.
